Who we are

Legacoop Emilia-Romagna is a branch of the “Lega Nazionale delle Cooperative e Mutue” – Legacoop (National League of Co-operatives and Mutuals).

It is the main organisation that represents co-operatives in this region and unites co-operatives and their economic subsidiaries in various sectors.

It is also responsible for organising co-operative-based solutions to meet the needs of their members (producers, workers, consumers, inhabitants, users, retailers).

Emilia Romagna is one of Europe’s top regions in terms of its number of co-operatives and it certainly has far more co-operatives than any other region in Italy. Statistics, in fact, show that just under one out every two inhabitants are members of at least one co-operative.

History and value

The current co-operative enterprise is the result of a process which began in the 1850s.

Emilia-Romagna is considered the homeland of the Italian co-operative, a big claim backed up by concrete data: Emilia-Romagna is the region with the highest proportion of co-operative employees to regional population in Italy and accounts for 28.3 % of the Italian co-operative sales volume.
