Knowledge as the key to being a protagonist

Member Education. Training members for cooperative life

The 5th Principle of Cooperation is Education, Training, and Information, and it states the following:

Cooperatives provide education and training for their members, elected representatives, managers, and employees, so they can contribute effectively to the development of their cooperatives. Cooperatives carry out information campaigns to raise public awareness—particularly among young people and leading opinion-makers—about the nature and benefits of cooperation.

Why this project

For us, member education is essential to maintain the integrity, effectiveness, and long-term success of the cooperative, ensuring it operates in line with its core principles and community goals.

The objectives of the project

Cooperative principles
Education and training are an integral part of the cooperative principles established by the International Cooperative Alliance. Educating members helps ensure they fully understand these principles and how to apply them in the cooperative’s day-to-day management.

Active participation
To keep a cooperative healthy and dynamic, it is essential that members are informed and actively involved. Education helps members make informed decisions during general meetings and other decision-making activities.

Democratic management
Cooperatives operate on a democratic basis, meaning every member has the right to vote. Education ensures that members are prepared to exercise this right responsibly and knowledgeably.

Sustainability and growth
Educating members on topics such as business management, sustainable development, market strategies, and technological innovation can help guide the cooperative toward sustainable, long-term growth.

Social responsibility
Cooperatives are often committed to supporting not only their members but also local communities. Education can amplify the social impact of cooperatives by equipping members with the skills to contribute more effectively to community wellbeing.
