Reading tomorrow between the lines of history

Virtual Museum and Atlas of Cooperation. Our History Available to Everyone

150 years of history containing an important historical and cultural heritage. 150 years of history that combine past and present, learning how to read tomorrow. This is the goal of the Virtual Museum of Cooperation, which aims to connect the historical heritage of cooperation and make it available to the public. Many initiatives have been launched by cooperatives to add value to their history and their presence within their respective local areas; these will be gathered in the Cooperation Atlas of Emilia-Romagna.Many cooperatives have already produced historical knowledge experiences and various physical museum displays to account for highly complex entrepreneurial, social, and value-based histories. Thanks to the use of new digital and communication technologies, we want to build a network of these achievements through the creation of a Digital Museum, making historical assets and cooperative renewal experiences available to both a national and international audience. The development of this tool will also serve to cultivate our new identity, the result of collective reflection and action. In turn, the Virtual Museum will give rise to the Cooperation Atlas of Emilia-Romagna, which will highlight the relationship with local communities and the actual presence of cooperation.

Why this project

In light of the repositioning challenges facing the cooperative movement, the identity of the cooperative project and the distinctive nature of the cooperative experience have become crucial.

For this reason, it is important to build tools that connect historical experience with present-day needs, accumulated knowledge, and the need for repositioning.

The objectives of the project

Digitize existing historical cooperative archives.

Enhance the museums and materials already created and produced by cooperatives by connecting these assets in a shared network.

Use new digital technologies through an effort of technical innovation as well, increasingly connecting the cooperative experience with ongoing innovations.

Pursue an educational objective aimed at the general public as well as the cooperative community.

Pursue international visibility by making the materials produced available in multiple languages.

Enable the territories where cooperatives are established to recognize the distinctiveness of the cooperative presence and its contribution to economic and civic development.
